In the example of a reaction step rule appearing in Figure 1.8 six bonds are involved and three bonds are moved along the path beginning with H. Curved arrows pointing to the bond are used here (instead of straight arrows pointing to the symbols) because there is in fact a bond they are pointing to, while in the two examples before a new bond was formed where there was none.
